Finance Intern
PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
Mercy Corps (MC) is a non-profit, voluntary humanitarian aid agency, registered in the United States and Scotland with offices in more than 40 countries around the world. Mercy Corps has been addressing the humanitarian needs in Jordan through a diverse portfolio of development and relief programs for the past 12 years. Mercy Corps exists to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression by helping people build secure, productive, and just communities. Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war almost five years ago, Mercy Corps has worked to address the urgent needs of nearly 4 million people both inside Syria and in neighboring countries.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
Working in Finance Department under a direct supervision of Senior Finance Officer, the Intern will assist Finance unit with checking accuracy and completeness of Mercy Corps accounting records, preparing various financial reconciliations, supporting with month end processes as well as managing daily routine tasks.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Support the payment processing team (Finance Assistant and/or Finance Officer) to ensure all payments are cleared on a timely fashion.
- Data entry to MC Accounting System (Navigator)
- Assist with various reconciliations such as Bank, Cash, advances, receivables, payables, etc.
- Assist with month-end financial reports and journal entries
- Assist with daily treasury Operations
- Maintain a soft and hard filing system in accordance with Mercy Corps Policies and Procedures.
- Provide ad hoc support to other team members
- Assist during the audit processes.
- Other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Through the internship, the intern will acquire:
- Learning experiences that combine in-class theory with real-world applications
- Ability to work effectively with other team member
DELIVERABLES:
The intern is expected to provide support to the team in terms of:
- Entering cash and bank transaction into Navigator.
- Maintain a proper filing system of all financial records.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reports Directly To: Senior Finance officer
Works Directly with: Other Finance Team members and Support Staff
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- University Degree in accounting or related fields
- Computer literate skills
- Good spoken and written English
SUCCESS FACTORS:
- A clear understanding of finance ethics
- Willingness and ability to enforce compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies and procedures is essential.
- The ability to interact effectively with international and national staff members is required.
- A demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing program activities is necessary.
Duration Of Position: Six Months
