IREX is looking for a Program Manager for a youth empowerment program in Jordan based on building skills for critical thinking and community engagement and providing opportunities for youth voice and agency. The program, of the duration of 21 months, is a follow-on to a previous initiative, and as such it will leverage and further develop successfully tested tools and resources. Activities are to be implemented through partners at the grassroots level, mainly community-based-organizations, and in partnership with national and local institutions. Main beneficiary groups include 16-24 year-olds from underserved areas in southern Jordan.
The Program Manager will be responsible for managing all day-to-day program activities and ensure completion of deliverables. S/He will be expected to make necessary programmatic choices and decisions in consultation with the Country Director and colleagues at IREX HQ in Washington, DC. The Program Manager, to be employed full-time for the duration of the Program, reports to the Jordan Country Director and supervises a small but capable and tested technical field team. This position is available immediately and is open to Jordanian citizens. The successful applicant is entitled to all benefits envisaged under Jordanian law as well as under IREX policies.
Description Of Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day program operations and activities
- Supervise a small field program team
- Develop and manage partnerships with civil society organizations, through sub-awards and institutional counterparts, through MoUs
- Design, award and oversee subawards, ensuring timely and adequate submission of deliverables and reporting by the partners
- Select, recruit and manage consultants
- Adapt and develop existing IREX technical training resources, including facilitator manuals
- Design and oversee implementation of training activities, community initiatives, online campaigns and multi-media production
- Oversee monitoring, evaluation and learning across program activities
- Be responsible for technical reporting and communications
- Manage project risks, including the development of contingency plans
- Conduct regular visits to program activities and partners in southern Jordan, mostly one-day-trips, but also a few over-night stays
Skills And Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in youth, media and/or civil society development
- At least three years in management-level positions in programs funded by international donors
- Proven training design and facilitation skills
- Familiarity with Positive Youth Development (PYD)
- Excelling written and verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English
